Girls Are Powerful (GRP) is launching its Mentor Program, which will bring together girls ages 7-17 of all races, cultures, and lived experiences to discover and embrace their identities and use their power to positively impact their communities. This program will connect groups of girls with Peer Mentors and Adult Mentors, who will guide participants through a three-year curriculum within a safe environment for sharing and growth. GRP will launch the program virtually in the fall of 2022. 

Role Summary 

The Trainer will work alongside the Mentor Program team to deliver the program curriculum to Mentors.The Trainer is responsible for leading this process by mapping out and facilitating a virtual training program for Mentor groups. These sessions should prepare Mentors to deliver the Program Curriculum to their mentee groups through an inclusive and justice-focused lens. Training sessions will take place monthly over the course of six – eight months.

Time Commitment: 15-20 hours per month, 1 Year Commitment* with option to renew  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build a training program that aligns with the mission and values of Girls Are Powerful using the program curriculum
  • Lead and facilitate all training sessions, creating an inclusive and engaging environment for adult and peer mentors of different ages, backgrounds, and identities
  • Prepare Mentors to accurately and confidently deliver the program curriculum to their mentees
  • Anticipate questions, challenges, and concerns of Mentors, and address them appropriately
  • Work with GRP Mentor Program Team to understand program needs, assess mentor progress, address issues or conflicts, and continually improve training methodology

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

 It is expected that the candidate for this position has all or most of the following: 

  • Previous training, teaching, or coaching  experience in an education or management setting
  • Experience working with youth and/or youth development
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Proven ability to adapt training modules or methods to be appropriate for various age groups, backgrounds, cultures, and needs
  • Strong critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work digitally; access to personal laptop/phone 
  • Proficiency in Google Apps and Zoom
