Vice Chair is energized by Girls Are Powerful mission
Social service is natural to Tory Merhar, who serves as Senior Director of PICS – Partners in Community Supports – a service of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota. PICS helps people manage the financial aspects of self-directed care enabling them to remain in their own homes and communities.
“The mission of Girls Are Powerful gets every part of my being energized,” says Tory. “I was looking to make an impact in the community, and I’m passionate about helping girls in any way possible.”
Tory found the perfect fit in the role of Vice Chair for Girls Are Powerful. “It blends my business skills and my social work skills in a way that aligns with my values,” she says. Tory partners with the Board Chair to manage board meetings and oversee the affairs of all Girls Are Powerful committees.
Reflecting on Girls Are Powerful’s mission, Tory says: “We need more beautiful, smart, confident, determined, and powerful women in this world. Girls between 7 and 17 are facing so many changes that having an organization that recognizes that and is committed to affirming the power that girls have is a blessing.”
Tory’s favorite power word is: “Confident. I tell the girls: What you bring to this world is important. I believe in you. Believe in yourself, and rise to meet life’s challenges. When you do, your confidence will lead you through the changes you will face.”
Tory looks forward to growing along with the girls, and we are grateful to have her on board.
