Testimonials

Girl Scout Troop 15099 had the most inspiring, self-esteem building workshop today with Shawntan Howell-Robinson as the presenter. Our girls reclaimed their true genuine Girl Power. We laughed, we searched our innermost feelings, we came together as one sisterhood for our last troop meeting of the year. Our girls are even more confident about moving on to bigger and brighter things in their future. Thank you Girls Are Powerful you rock.

It has been an amazing experience working with Shawntan and the Girls Are Powerful Organization. I think this organzation is a wonderful aid in encouraging young girls to live beyond the standard and understand themselves, their true selves. It is important to let young girls know that they are not only beautiful, but that they are smart and can accomplish anything that they set their minds to. I wish that every young girl could experience this.

The most valuable aspect was the active participation from the girls, seeing their friends respond well and having Shawntan challenge them if they weren’t “saying it like you believe it”. I like the idea of the girls picking the definition words and putting them together with their power word. The activities really help to keep these themes stay alive. I think the wheel and poster for their room helps too, to keep it alive. The girls still talk about how great it was. Another troop sounds like they’re going to contact you. I hope they do. The parents talk about it positively too! We’ve been practicing the power stance at home.

It was very eye opening to see how our children feel about themselves. And to realize just how much we need to make sure we are telling them often about the positive qualities they have. We as parents are constantly having to correct our children and that is what they focus on so it is important to make sure we are also telling them what they are doing right. From the girls perspective. The girls had a great time once they got into it and got past their insecurities. They really liked the interactive parts. The puzzle and the craft. Thank you so much for you extra efforts with our girls and really taking the time to help them through the rough spots. It was like a therapy session for our girls in a way that we may not have even realized they needed. This event was worth every penny. I only wish our other girls could have been there. Thank you.

I received a CONFIDENT shirt to remind me that I need to stop doubting my self. I purchased a “POWERFUL” shirt for myself which reminds me of my power as a mother, daughter, and a woman of color in this world. Through all of the things I have been through personally in my life… as weak as I have been the more Powerful it made me as a person. I selected “Powerful” & “Confident” for Myself because I want to feel that way & help others!!! We chose Determined for my 10 yr old because no matter what she tries to do…She is “Determined” to do it!!! We chose “Unique” My 7 yr old because she definately is that!!! I would Love to eventually get ones for All Our Girl Scout too!!!  Determined. That resonates with me to show them not to give up. I have one of each, because they all speak to my soul.

I purchased a “UNIQUE” for my sons 8 year old sister who lives in Seattle, WA. She was given Unique because I wanted her to understand how she was wonderfully different in her thinking, experiences, and her home dynamics which is not the same as many children, but yet unique in her situation. I wanted her to embrace that “not being the same” is ok and that she is still surrounded by love and you can still thrive. I purchased a “BEAUTIFUL” shirt for my sons 10 year old sister because she has a lot of issues with her physical complex. She has always been bigger and taller than many children her age and in her class. I wanted her to know that beauty isn’t exterior it comes from within and illuminates outward. Its in your actions of how you carry yourself and treat others around you that make you beautiful. We bought a couple for friends of ours and they loved them!!! The girls loved them.
