Family Connect | Your wellbeing Matters

Join Girls Are Powerful for some personal connection during physical distancing. Our Family Connection events will focus on community building through quality time and empowerment activities—all from the safety of your own home! Offered over three Saturdays in collaboration with women in the community, we will explore and tap into what it means to take care of ourselves.

PAUSE FOR GRATITUDE | APRIL 25, 2020

This is the third and final session of our series which provided an opportunity for us to pause and reflect on all that we are grateful for.

With Lisa Xiong, we paused and reflected through the practice of yoga & meditation. We made time in our day to take note of what we’re grateful for and learned that by doing so, it can improve our overall health.

With Kara Brower, together we learn about gratitude and discussed how gratitude grows the more you use it and learned techniques to help us acknowledge and honor those things we are grateful for.

REVIVE OUR ENERGY | APRIL 25, 2020

This is the second session of our three-part series which energized our mind, body and spirit through uplifting activities.

We jammed and Revive our Energy with Zumba led by Coach Val! Zumba is a fitness program that combines Latin and international music with dance moves.

With Heather Whelpley, we gave ourselves permission to do what gives us energy. We explored ideas around what it means to rest, find joy, have positive connections, and move.  Each attendee created an individual or family energy toolkit to help manage their energy during this time.

During our last session, we notice participants wanted time to ask questions and conversate about what was on their minds based on the session. During this session, Julie Bluhm hosts a Q&A session on topics related to grounding ourselves and reviving our energy during this time.

GROUND OURSELVES | APRIL 11, 2020

This is the first session of our three-part series which offered practices that will help us stay grounded and focus on well-being.

Activate Your Energy with Qigong lead by Susan Miles. Qigong is a form of mindful movement that is a slow, intentional form of tai chi. Qi is Chinese for life energy, and qigong is the practice of managing the flow and distribution of life energy to improve awareness and harmony of mind and body.

With Julie Bluhm, we will learn about the purpose of our emotions, how to honor and process them without getting overwhelmed and what to do when you start freaking out.
