our COVID-19 response

KNOWLEDGE IS EMPOWERING

Organizations including Girls Are Powerful abruptly shifted to virtual services when COVID-19 forced everyone to stay home. It became clear early-on the pandemic was disproportionately impacting women and girls.

As a girls’ organization, we believe we need to do everything in our power to help girls, families and our community during challenging times. From 2020 to 2022, Girls Are Powerful was honored to serve as Trusted Messengers on behalf of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). We delivered timely and factual information about COVID-19, vaccinations and resources aimed to keep people informed, healthy and safe.

With an emphasis on reaching marginalized individuals and families, the evidence-based communication and wellness campaign offered tips, tools and practices to help people stay grounded and focus on wellbeing during the pandemic. Our goal was to empower people to be mentally and physically ready to recover and rebuild once physical distancing ends.

Keeping our communities informed

We remain committed to helping people stay mentally and physically healthy. We include these topics along with COVID-related updates in our monthly newsletter. We also share resources and information through our Wellbeing Events and Youth Advisory Board activities at the links below.

Our Partnership with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Comes to a Close

In the early days of the pandemic, it became clear that the pandemic was disproportionately impacting women and girls. As a girls’ organization, Girls Are Powerful believes we need to do everything in our power to help girls, families and our community during challenging times, which is why we’ve been pleased to work with MDH as Trusted Messengers. As Trusted Messengers these past two years, we’ve delivered timely and factual information about COVID-19, vaccinations and resources aimed to keep people informed, healthy, and safe. We are grateful for our past partnership with MDH and remain committed to keeping our community informed about ways to stay mentally and physically healthy.

We will continue to share COVID-related messages through our monthly Newsletter.

Please use the resources of Wellbeing Events and Youth Advisory Board activities highlight on the page to continue to tap into your own personal wellbeing during this time.
